Abstrait: The Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Corridor (HK-SWC) and the Deep Bay Link (DBL) are two highway projects located near the north-western boundary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). The HK-SWC will be the fourth vehicular boundary crossing between two of the most prosperous cities in the southern part of China: Hong Kong and Shenzhen. The DBL will link the HK-SWC to Hong Kong's strategic highway system via the Yuen Long Highway. This Paper describes some of the main challenges of these two projects at the planning and design stages, notably the necessary environmental protection measures and how these have been addressed in conjunction with design development of the bridgework, as well as the special challenges posed by the design liaison with the Shenzhen side.
